Following the introduction of Australian Standard 1940/2004 for the storage of dangerous goods, more companies are moving towards workplace safety compliancy. A leading manufacturer of compliant dangerous goods storage systems, Store-Safe , ensures that its products not only comply but exceed set standards.

The new standard introduced the aspect of self assessment for the storage of dangerous goods in the workplace, with huge fines possible for companies and individuals for non-compliance.

According to Store-Safe founder and Managing Director, Grant Breeze, the market is now realising the importance of the new Australian Standard and workplace safety, but still struggling with self assessment.

“The self-assessment guidelines for AS 1940/2004 are quite complex. Companies finding it difficult to interpret these guidelines should contact a Dangerous Goods Consultant to assist,” he comments.

To assist, Store-Safe produced an informative CD regarding the handling and storage of dangerous goods, in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Dangerous Goods Consultants, which is available free of charge to industry.

Store-Safe’s range of indoor and outdoor dangerous good cabinets and dangerous goods stores assist organisations to ensure that they are compliant with the new Australian standard, however, Breeze warns that there are some less than scrupulous operators in the market.

“Do not be fooled that a reconditioned sea container will do the job. These containers have been decommissioned by their original owners because they were old or corroded. It is just not worth taking the risk with these products,” Breeze explains.

All Store-Safe indoor and outdoor dangerous goods containers are manufactured using strengthened Bluescope Steel and feature a registered key system. All are designed and manufactured to the highest level of quality and Australian Standards compliance.

This aspect has been noted by Brisbane City Council who have approved Store-Safe’s Indoor Flammable Liquid Cabinets of 450, 650 and 850 litre capacity and the Outdoor Flammable Liquid Stores (bulk and pallet friendly) ranges for use in the Brisbane City Council area.
