Several award-winning practices are represented in this year’s jury for the 2016 Victorian Architecture Awards announced recently by the Australian Institute of Architects and Victorian Chapter Awards Committee.

The selected jurors include Meaghan Dwyer from John Wardle Architects, the architects behind the award-winning Melbourne School of Design, chairing the Educational jury; Tim Jackson from Jackson Clements Burrows (Monash University North West Precinct & Moonlight Cabin), chairing the Melbourne Prize jury; and Peter Bickle, ARM Architecture (Shrine of Remembrance – Galleries of Remembrance), chairing this year’s Commercial jury.

Of the 197 entries received in this year’s awards program across all categories, the Residential Architecture Houses – Alterations and Additions category has once again become the most contested with 41 houses in the running for the John & Phyllis Murphy Award.

Given the high number of entries in this category, residential presentations will be held at 41X on Friday 18 March, followed by a full day of presentations across all categories on Saturday 19 March at the Melbourne School of Design, Melbourne University where all entrants will present their projects to juries.

Presentation to juries is free and open to the public.

Several familiar projects and faces are among the list of entries this year including the 2015 Sustainability Awards winning project Western Business Accelerator and Centre for Excellence by Six Degrees, the 2014 Sustainability Awards finalist Hindmarsh Corporate Centre by k20 Architecture as well as the new Geelong Library & Heritage Centre by ARM Architecture.

Ari Apartments by Ola Studio, which won the Residential (New) Award at the 2015 Archi Team Awards is also on the list of entries, as is the infamous Barak Building: Swanston Square by ARM Architecture.
