A lightweight steel framing solution from SBS Group was specified for the top level structure of a new apartment building in Hampton, Victoria.

Designed by Interlandi Mantesso architects and built by Iurada Property Group, the Azure apartment project required a faster and easier-to-install system to be developed for the top level structure while still complying with the required building regulations.

SBS’ lightweight steel alternative replaced substantial structural steel and was engineered to support the roof plan platform. Fire rating allowances were accommodated within the SBS design, satisfying the FRL (fire resistant level) in accordance with AS 1530.

SBS employed the latest BIM modelling 3D technology to detail and fabricate the steel framing to millimetre-perfect accuracy.

The installation was executed smoothly and efficiently thanks to an onsite coordination meeting facilitated by SBS with the installer, site manager and project manager. The project benefitted from the use of steel in terms of speed of installation, which was achieved by eliminating unnecessary fixings/ brackets, with no further straightening required once the frames were installed.

SBS supplied a total of 5787 L/M of steel frames to cover an area of 417.82 square metres.
