Silicone sealants are the most common type of sealant for general purpose plumbing due to their excellent water resistance and ease of application. Silicones form a waterproof skin quickly in between five and thirty minutes and typically cure between one to two millimetres thickness a day.  By adding certain chemicals, silicones can offer mould resistant properties that are suitable for use in bathrooms and other humid areas prone to mould growth.

Sanitary silicones are commonly used in wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.   Fuller 770 Sanitary Silicone Sealant is specifically designed for use in wet areas and contains a mould and mildew inhibitor.  770 Sanitary Silicone is also suitable for contact with aluminium shower screens.
