Slippery bathroom floors – reducing slip and fall risks

    Grip Guard Non Slip

Slippery bathroom floors in homes, offices and public buildings present a real danger to families, employees and the general public.

Often, incorrect tile selection is the cause of the problem.  Tiles are rated according to their slip resistance so that property owners and builders can choose a tile suited to their purpose.  It is important to choose correctly as a tile that is safe in a dry area can be extremely hazardous in a wet area or an area where water is tracked or dripped such as foyers.

Another common problem in regards to slippery floors is wear and tear.  A tile that may have been non-slip when installed may lose its slip resistance over time due to continual traffic and maintenance.  By treating the floor with Grip Guard non-slip treatment, in most cases the original slip resistance (or greater) can be restored.

If it is suspected that floors no longer meet Australian Standards of slip resistance, a simple test can be carried out to determine the safety of floors.  If they are found to be unsafe, there are a number of non-slip treatments that can be utilised depending on the type of floor:

Stone, ceramics, porcelains and other mineral based floors can be treated with Grip Guard anti-slip treatment.  The application creates a permanent, yet invisible change to the internal structure of the tiles to enhance slip resistance.  Floors can be cleaned as per normal following the non-slip treatment.

For surfaces such as slippery timber, linoleum, vinyl or sealed cork, DuraGrip anti-slip sealer can be used to increase slip resistance.  Perfectly round glass beads are added to the sealer to create a safer pedestrian surface.  The sealer also protects the floor increasing its life.

Ensuring safe floors protects property owners from the risk slip and fall accidents and the expensive litigation that may arise from these accidents.

Grip Guard Non Slip provides solutions for every floor surface.
