A major refurbishment is underway at Sydney’s Telstra Stadium as the main concourse area around the stadium receives a complete facelift with Flowcrete’ s Deckshield UV topcoat replacing badly degraded concrete.

The flooring system specification included a number of key criteria, as Sean Tinsley from Flowcrete International explains: “The underlying concrete slab is suspended and as such is subject to potential movement,” he says. “The new flooring system therefore needed to be flexible and crack-resistant. The concourse is also exposed to the external elements in some areas. Deckshield’s flexibility, waterproof properties and UV-resistant topcoat made it the only flooring system available that could meet all the criteria.” Its anti-slip surface and ease of cleaning were further advantages as was Dockshield’s ability to incorporate decorative elements - Telstra’s logo will be featured within the concourse flooring.

Flowcrete’s Deckshield is a BBA (British Board of Agreement) approved flexible, solvent-free deck coating system that has been used on a number of well-known stadia worldwide, including the Millennium Stadium in Wales and the Nad al Sheba stadium in Dubai. It has also been specified for the new Wembley Stadium in the UK.
