Two casino flooring systems from ASP Access Floors were specified for the gaming areas of The Star Casino in Sydney to meet the variable load demands.

The second largest casino in Australia, The Star Casino is situated on the famous Darling Harbour, and features a hotel, restaurants, entertainment precinct including the famous Lyric Theatre, and the world-famous casino.

The Star features a ceiling height exceeding six metres, thereby, requiring a very robust flooring system to be able to sustain the loads of heavy scissor lifts and other service equipment that would be needed to maintain the ceiling.

ASP supplied their patented and proprietary industrial grade and super heavy industrial grade casino flooring systems for installation across 3675m² of flooring area throughout the new extension completed by Probuild in November 2016.

ASP’s access floor systems used in the project included steel cementitious industrial grade casino system with a 9.0KN loading at 150mm finish floor height; and steel cementitious super heavy industrial grade casino system with a 13.0KN loading at 150mm finish floor height.

Various floor finishes such as tiles, timber, vinyl and carpet were used, necessitating several different set-downs in the access flooring. In order to merge the floor with the curved façade of the building, ASP’s specially designed 800 x 600mm sized panels were used, helping achieve the vastness of the curve.

Due to the extensive amount of service equipment and traffic, and the corresponding variable loads, ASP’s proprietary casino products were utilised to achieve a seamless uniform flooring system that was capable of handling the dynamic loads experienced on the gaming floor while ensuring its longevity.
