The Design Institute of Australia’s Graduate of the Year awards has recognised TAFE NSW alumni Lauren Coleman as the Interior Decoration Graduate of the Year.

After completing her Diploma of Interior Design last year, Coleman has moved to UNSW, where she is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Honours) and working as an interior designer in Leura.

“I am thrilled to receive this prestigious design award and am indebted to my teachers at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore for giving me the skills and training to forge my way in such an exciting industry,” she says.

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be counted amongst the incredible designers who have received this award before me, and I can’t wait to see where my career will take me.”

Interior design is something of a growth industry in Australia, and is expected to grow by another 16 percent in the next three years.

Head Teacher of Interior Design at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore, Tanya Dobble, says the Diploma offered by the institution combines practical and theoretical learning to give students a sound understanding of design best practice.

“TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore provides a range of purpose-built design studios where students are able to immerse themselves in design,” Dobble says.

“Many of our graduates have gone on to enjoy incredibly successful careers in the industry and it’s great to see Lauren being rewarded for her hard work and dedication to Interior Design.”

The Graduate of the Year program celebrates upcoming designers from around Australia, with approximately 30 graduates in each category nominated by education and training providers from around Australia. From there, four graduates are selected as finalists for each category.
