Design and construct home builder Urban Habitats has won two key awards from the Master Builders South Australia 2018 Excellence Awards.

Urban Habitats Construction and Development director Josh Semmler was awarded Young Builder of the Year while the company also picked up an Excellence in Renovation Award for a prominent project in Unley.

“I’m both excited and extremely proud to have been recognised with this award,” says Semmler.

“I have been on the journey with Urban Habitats for 15 of its nearly 20 years in operation and I’m now a director of the growing business, which employs 10 people.”

Urban Habitats received the Excellence in Renovation Award in the over $1 million category for a striking renovation and extension project on Palmerston Road, Unley.

The company was engaged to design, build and manage the project from concept to completion, resulting in the sensitive restoration of a dilapidated, heritage home to a high level.

Urban Habitats managing director Jock Merrigan says the extensive refurbishment and contemporary extension was a highly challenging project and the result was a modern home that exceeded all expectations.

“We were thrilled to win the award for this particular project because of the level of collaboration and out-of-the-box thinking that was needed to deliver the brief,” says Merrigan.

“The high calibre of workmanship needed to deliver a modern building while still being sympathetic to the existing home was truly on display in this project. Both the renovation and extension were driven by attention to detail and expert execution from our specialist contractors."
