Seven projects have received regional commendations at the 2015 Gold Coast and Northern Rivers Architecture Awards and will progress to the 2015 Queensland Architecture Awards in June.

Three category awards were also given, two were chosen by the jury comprising Katherine Rickard (MODE, jury coordinator), Matthew Eagle (ME) and Chris Gee (Coast Arc), while one was a People’s Choice Award.

Cox Rayner Architects Gold Coast Aquatic Centre was the big winner, taking home both the Building of the Year and the People’s Choice Award, and was praised by the jury for its quality adaptive re-use of the site’s previous Southport Pool.

The House of the Year Award went to refresh*design architects for their Northern Rivers Beach House. The minimalistic elevated house rises on a small footprint and was cited by the Jury as an innovative exemplar of architectural and structural resolution to constrained site.
