Sydney Uni pips Melbourne in 2016 QS World University Rankings for Architecture as most Australian faculties slip

The University of Sydney has edged ahead of the University of Melbourne on the 2016 QS World University Rankings by Subject, taking the number one position in Australia off its southern rival in the architecture and built environment disciplines.

Sydney Uni was ranked 17 in the world in the Rankings by Subject architecture discipline just in front of Melbourne Uni (18) and the University of NSW (19). The next Australian architecture faculty to make the top 50 was RMIT at 36, followed by The University of Queensland (43) and The University of Newcastle (47).

Curtin, Griffith and Monash universities as well as Queensland University of Technology and the University of South Australia were all from 51-100.

The QS rankings evaluated 4,226 universities, qualified 2,691 universities and ranked the top 945 institutions. The process included analysing more than 113 million citations and verifying more than 15,530 programs

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.A) once again topped the list ahead of the University College London in second and University of California, Berkeley in third.

Overall it was a slight fall for most Australian faculties with only UNSW posting an improvement on their 2015 rankings.
