A sports hall designed by Allen Jack+Cottier is one of six Sport in Architecture finalists at the 2018 World Architecture News (WAN) Awards.

The multi-award winning project at Abbotsleigh School in Wahroonga comprises a new multi-purpose sports hall, elevated sports field, fitness room, large flexible teaching/dance studio spaces, tiered spectator seating, amenities, viewing areas, and two large undercover car parks.

The project is competing with five others from around the world. These include: Golden 1 Centre Sacramento USA by Aecom; City Football Academy, Manchester, UK by Rafael Vinoly Architects; Groupama Stadium, Lyon, France by Populous; San Mames Stadium, Bilbao, Spain by IDOM and Middlebury College Virtue Field House, Middlebury USA by Sasaki

“Shortlisting of our Abbotsleigh sports hall with the very best sports buildings from across the globe sets off an exciting contest,” says principal architect and CEO of AJ+C, Michael Heenan.

“We designed a sensitive building sitting lightly in its native Australian environment which is now up against buildings such as the mega San Mames Stadium in Bilbao.”

The winner of the award will be announced at the WAN awards event in London on 28 February 2018.
