The state government prohibited architects from attending an exhibition of 'long list' designs produced for the Flinders Street upgrade competition in late November.

The finalists, made up of Ashton Raggatt McDougall, NH Architecture, Zaha Hadid, Hassell + Herzog & de Meuron, John Wardle Architects + Grimshaw and Eduardo Velasquez + Manuel Pineda + Santiago Medina, all received letters from Major Projects Victoria which warned them not to attend the event held by Fitzroy based firm Edwards Moore, according to Fairfax.

A&D recently reported that the exhibition featured work from 27 companies out of the 100 which appeared on the longlist and none of the shortlisted entrants attended.

Edwards Moore wrote on their website: "The exhibition was designed so as to create a concentrated viewing area shrouded by a translucent curtain, referencing the secrecy associated with the competition process."

The competition explicitly stated that no participants are allowed to reveal their designs until the winners are announced however a rebellion occurred when architects put imagery of their designs on their websites.

These included Andrew Burns Architect, Steve Rose Architect, Fraser Paxton Architects, Gresley Abas, ROTHELOWMAN, Apehaus, Delia Teschendorff Architecture, K20 Architecture, Michael Smith (The Red and Black Architect).

Peddle Thorp Architects has since also published its entry online.
