Bold Architecture + Interior Design’s Mercy College Mackay Library Redevelopment has won ‘Regional Project of the Year’ and ‘People’s Choice’ at the Queensland Architecture Awards Regional Roadshow.

The Queensland Architecture Awards Regional Roadshow follows this year’s Queensland Architecture Awards. It provides an opportunity to celebrate local architecture and its success at both a regional and state level. The Regional Project of the Year was introduced to highlight a local project by a local architect, while People’s Choice was run through a facebook page where members of the public were invited to vote for their favourite projects.

This year Bold Architecture + Interior Design won both of these awards for its Mercy College Mackay Library Redevelopment, which is a continuation of the overall master plan philosophy of ‘campus as city’.

“Part of the campus master plan, the redevelopment of the original single storey structure provides a new identity for the library and a strong street presence,” notes the jury.

“The internal spaces are divided by a central staircase which also connects the library, via the upper level, to the adjacent classrooms. With a large glazed wall to the north a metal veil skirts this elevation, re-aligning the library both physically and visually, with an external courtyard. The library occupation has been re-invigorated.”
