Marlegno Prefabricated Wooden Buildings has collaborated with the Association of Architects of Bergamo on an international contest to design prefabricated wooden single family homes.

‘Designing the future’, the contest requires the design to optimise prefabrication and standardisation to obtain different architectural solutions. Participants must design the house with due consideration to the landscape, climate and culture of the country they represent. Each unit shall have a total area of approximately 100sqm, which can be also developed on one or more levels.

Open to graduate students, architects, engineers and designers, the contest also allows groups represented by a single person to participate. Each participant is permitted to submit a single project.

The contest will be evaluated by an eminent judging panel consisting of Arch. Gianmatteo Romegialli, founder of the studio Act Romegialli Morbegno (president); Arch. Giancarlo Paganino, associate professor of the Polytechnic of Milan, Department ABC former Best; Ing. Angelo Luigi Marchetti, Marlegno; and Arch Corrado Negrini, representative of the Architects of Bergamo.

The project will be evaluated on multiple criteria including prefabrication off site; basic elements/modules and their aggregation; eco-sustainability; and design.

Judging will be completed by September 30, 2014 and all participants will be notified via email.

Prizes for the architectural design contest include: First place €5,600; Second place €2,800 and, Third place €1,400.

The prize ceremony will be held in Marlegno’s conference hall on October 11, 2014. The first 50 projects will be exhibited at the Marlegno exhibition hall until October 31, 2014.
