A publication showcasing some of Australia’s best contemporary landscape architectural design projects from the last decade will be launched at RMIT University this week.
Sunburnt: Australian Practices of Landscape Architecture will be officially launched on Friday, 3 June.
The book is co-authored by RMIT’s Professor SueAnne Ware and Queensland University of Technology’s Julian Raxworthy, and published by SUN Architecture.
Professor Ware, the Professor of Landscape Architecture at RMIT’s School of Architecture and Design, said: “The value of what and how landscape architecture is being produced in contemporary Australian practice still needs interrogation by a wider audience.
“This book is a call for others to comment and debate, as it adds to a growing critical awareness of our practices.”
Sunburnt examines spatial and material qualities that define the Australian landscape through the lens of landscape architecture. The framework is structured around three conceptual constructs: bio metric emergent ecologies; social engaged civic spaces and the generation of an Australian formal aesthetic.
The publication follows the Sunburnt: Australian Practices of Landscape Architecture exhibition, which travelled to leading European museums and galleries in April, including The Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, England, and Sint-Lucas School of Architecture, Ghent, Belgium. Previously the exhibition was at Shed 4, Docklands, Melbourne, and the Gallery of Australian Design, Canberra.
