SPENCE & Lyda will be showing the unique Lampe Gras series at designEX this year. La Lampe Gras, created by young French engineer Bernard-Albin Gras in 1921, is a model of balance, elegance and transparency and has become an icon in the history of lighting.

Available for the first time in Australia, La Lampe Gras will be shown at designEX. Arms 35 cm / 16 cm; bar 120 cm; black satin cast, black satin painted steel; black satin shade. RRP $799 including GST.The series of lamps was originally developed for use in offices and industrial environments, and subsequently became popular in professional as well as residential applications. Characterised by a simple, robust and ergonomic design, La Lampe Gras has neither screws nor welded joints in the basic form. The original articulated lamp was considered ahead of its time and quickly became an object of desire for architects.

Production of the Gras Lamps ceased at the outbreak of World War II and only now, after over a year of experimentation are they once again being made by hand in France. Today, the Lampe Gras is said to be a sought after collector’s item in France, the US and in Japan.

Bernard-Albin Gras’s visionary design has proven to be timeless and Australian design aficionados are likely to take notice.
