New designs for two prominent Kings Cross parks - Lawrence Hargrave Reserve and Fitzroy Gardens which includes the El Alamein Fountain - are now on public exhibition.

The new designs follow community consultation in 2008 where more than 800 comments from the community were received about what they wanted retained or changed in the parks.

The new designs for Fitzroy Gardens include:

- central green open space with intimate garden areas

- improved pedestrian concourse- improved façade on the police station

- improved bicycle parking and more seating

The designs are a result of City staff working alongside renowned architects Hill Thalis who helped turn the former Water Police site in Pyrmont into the Pirrama Park.

Proposed changes to Lawrence Hargrave Reserve include:

- community garden space and area for fruit trees

- better pedestrian access and connections with Fitzroy Gardens

The designs will be on public exhibition until September 9, 2010. Following the public exhibition period, feedback from the community will be used to refine the plans for Fitzroy Gardens and develop more detailed designs for the area.

Further community consultation will occur prior to proceeding with development plans with construction expected from mid-late 2011.

Further feasibility and consultation is still required for Lawrence Hargrave Reserve.

A construction start date is yet to be scheduled.
