Make designs soccer star's eco-home, Habitat for Humanity provides shelter in Haiti and eco-domes to educate South Korea on environment and ecosystems.

UNITED KINGDOM

Make Architects' plans for an ultra-sustainable home for Manchester United's Gary Neville have been submitted to Bolton Council. The property will be the first carbon-neutral home in the north-west and is made of wings with titles like "eat", "play", "sleep" and "entertain" spanning off it. A wind turbine will provide power for the house and much of it will be covered with a green roof.

HAITI

Habitat for Humanity International CEO, Jonathan Reckford, has visited Haiti's Port-au-Prince to meet Habitat for Humanity Haiti staff and tour some of the destroyed neighbourhoods. The organisation is offering a three-fold response to the earthquake that includes clearing debris from home sites, providing Recovery Starter kits and repairing and rebuilding homes through a transitional housing method. This model involves small shelters that can be built quickly and provide permanent base structures that can be expanded over time.

SOUTH KOREA

Plans for a large-scale nature reserve comprising a series of eco-domes, an education centre, greenhouses and an environmental think-tank have been released by The National Ecological Institute of South Korea. The 'Ecorium Project' will serve to educate people about nature and provide a space for the study of the world's ecosystems.

UNITED STATES

Painter and sculptor Gaspard Schlumberger has designed the Aeroblade, a cigar-shaped airship, which he hopes will provide a green alternative to air transport. The solar-powered balloon includes wings to assist with flying and has zero carbon emissions.
