Architects and interior designers often "don't know how to work together" and this is something that the recently appointed Principal of Architecture at the GSA Group, Chris Adkins, wants to change.

"The problem is that many architectural practices that I have worked in have architectural experience and people and interior design people but they don't often work well together ... Architects and interior designers come from different streams of education for a starter and they often don't express themselves the same way and so they don't know how to work together," Adkins told Architecture and Design.

"I'm hoping to form a revitalised company in Brisbane that integrates interior design and architecture completely".

Group GSA approached Adkins, who started working for the company in late August, believing that he was the best person to bolster its Brisbane team and spearhead its growth in Queensland.

Adkins wants to develop a united yet diversified firm by employing staff that are interested in and passionate about a wide range of design elements. He himself has experience in architecture, interiors, construction design management and business development as well as project, value and budget management.

"We're hoping that by employing high level, experienced people, we can offer a service that no one else is offering," he said.

At the top of Adkins' to-do list is raising the company's architectural profile in Queensland by winning large projects of a high public profile. He will begin by heading the already successful Building the Education Revolution (BER) schools work that has been awarded the Group GSA in the South East Queensland region.
