Portrait photographers are snapping up unique views of contemporary architectural practice as part of a new exhibition at Canberra’s National Portrait Gallery.
Seven Australian architect teams known for their unique and contemporary works have each selected a portrait photographer to create a suite of portraits, as part of the Portraits + Architecture exhibition.
“The exhibition explores the thinking that informs creative architecture practice rather than the details of specific buildings or architectural projects,” curator Dr Christopher Chapman said.
Each architect team will also create an installation that reflects their creative philosophy. These installations incorporate photographic, video, and three-dimensional elements.
The architect teams and photographers are: CO-AP (Collaborative Architecture Practice) (NSW) with Ross Honeysett; Denton Corker Marshall (VIC) with John Gollings; Johnson Pilton Walker (NSW) with Ingvar Kenne; Kerstin Thompson Architects (VIC) with Luis Ferreiro; Sean Godsell Architects (VIC) with Earl Carter; TERROIR (NSW/VIC/TAS) with Brett Boardman; and Troppo Architects (NT/SA/WA/NSW/QLD) with David Lancashire.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a major website documenting the project, with podcast interviews with the architects exploring inspiration and identity, but no architectural models will feature.
Portraits + Architecture will be at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra from 11 September to 15 November 2009 and entries are free.
