This weekend architecture students from around the country will compete in the Australian Institute of Architect’s 24 hour SuperStudio design competition.

The competition will be made of teams of three who will receive a brief on Friday night and have 24 hours to complete it and then present their submission to a state jury panel who will then select the finalists.

Finalists will have ten days to refine their submissions in preparation for the national judging process in late August.

The winning team will receive return flights to Venice and entry into the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale.

The competition was set up by creative directors Mark Raggatt and Tim Pyke of Ashton Raggatt McDougall (ARM), with the aim of:

"…encouraging participants to challenge their current understandings and create a theoretical response to the topic, showcasing their solution through visual and oral presentations at the end of the 24 hours."

The competition is run by the Institute's Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) and is designed to develop 'studio culture, provide networking opportunities between different universities and study years, and promote critique and analysis of topical subjects'.
