In 2018, the Good Design Awards will turn 60. The awards program, which aims to showcase innovation in design across a broad range of disciplines, is Australia's longest standing national design award and promotion program.

As part of Good Design Australia’s festivities, the awards ceremony and after-party on 17 May will be held at the Sydney Opera House for the very first time.

While entries for the awards haven’t opened just yet, to date the categories have typically included Product Design, Service Design, Digital Design, Communication Design, Architectural Design, Social Innovation, and Design Strategy. Among the 2017 winners – announced in early June – were Tonsley Innovation District Urban Design & Public Spaces by Woods Bagot, Tridente Architects and Oxigen, and Sargood on Collaroy by WMK Architecture.

Following the ceremony will be the three-day Good Design Showcase Exhibition. This will be held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay between 25 and 27 May.

Good Design Australia is expected to launch a number of other initiatives in recognition of the 60-year milestone, including a new website.
