Norman Foster has revealed a massive plan to redevelop the Metro Toronto Convention Centre area adjacent to the CN Tower and Rogers Centre Stadium. Developed by Oxford Properties Group and dubbed Oxford Place, the plan calls for upgrades to the current convention center and four new towers for housing, office space, a hotel, and a casino surrounding a five-and-a-half acre park spanning a railroad.

Busan, South Korea 

An invited competition to design a recognisable world-class opera house in the South Korean-city of Busan has been won by Norwegian firm Snohetta. The brief requested architects to imagine a symbolic landmark on a 34,928 sq m site located at the northern seaport of Jung-gu, facing out towards the sea.

Shanghai, China

The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) has presented the first Irish architecture showcase, Irish Architecture – A History of Culture and a Sustainable Future in Shanghai. The showcase included an exhibition and a week-long programme of lectures, meetings and discussions, looking at promoting Irish architecture among Chinese businesses who are interested in working with or employing Irish architects in China.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, in collaboration with art group Superflex and Topotek 1,  Superkilen is a new urban park that cuts through the heart of Copenhagen’s diverse Nørrebro neighborhood. The kilometer-long “Super Park”, which consists of three themed parts–”Red Square”, “Black Market”, and “Green Park”–is dotted with various pop artifacts and cultural mementos “sourced” from the home countries of the area’s inhabitants.

The competition to redesign one of LA’s great landmarks—its Sixth Street Viaduct - has ended, with HNTB’s surprisingly challenging scheme, made up of ten sets of concrete arches wildly winding across the Los Angeles River, taking the commission.

Düsseldorf, Germany

BDP has won the Düsseldorf Ulmer Höh design competition to redevelop a former prison site in Germany. BDP Khandekar, was up against five German practices for the 15 hectare mixed use urban redevelopment project. The jury was said to be impressed with the way the imprint of the prison was incorporated into BDP’s design of the public realm.
