Rooty Hill RSL will shortly complete the installation of a tri-generation power plant at a cost of over $4.5 million — a first for any club in Australia.

It is expected the tri-generation plant will help the club lower its carbon emissions by 50 per cent. The club will also take the future steps to manage its own growing power requirements in the greenest, most-efficient way possible.

This year will include the refurbishment of the existing hotel to a 4 star Novotel and the establishment of a 34 lane AMF Bowling venue and M9 Laser Skirmish facility.

The tri-generation plant at the club will operate during peak and shoulder periods, turning on when power prices increase during the day and turning off when energy prices revert to ‘off-peak’ rates later in the evening.

In case of a blackout, the tri-generation plant, including the absorption chiller for air-conditioning, will power the entire site using a demand management system.

It is expected the club will complete cost recovery within seven years and will service the construction cost without debt.

The new tri-generation plant will be completed in May.
