UK furniture designer, Christopher Duffy has layered glass and wood to form a dramatic table that replicates a geological cross-section of the sea.

While previous works by Duffy London have played with elements of gravity, The Abyss Table design draws inspiration from the depths of the ocean.

After noticing the way glass darkens as sheets of the material are layered upon one another, Duffy decided to play around with the effect.

The design team spent a year developing the table in their London studio, experimenting with sculpted glass, Perspex and wood, arranging them into a 3-D representation of a geological map.

The result is a majestic, limited-edition coffee table that serves as a conversation piece as much as a place to put your cup.
