Designs from the five finalists for the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) in Victoria are currently on public display.

Denton Corker Marshall, John Wardle Architects, Kerstin Thompson Architects, Lyons, and MvS Architects, who were shortlisted in October last year, will exhibit their concept drawings at the Eastbank Centre in Shepparton until 5 February.

The architecture competition for the new SAM attracted 88 applications through Greater Shepparton City Council’s tendering process. Five finalists were chosen to develop concept designs for the second stage, in order to select an architectural design for the new museum.

“We are really pleased to see such unique and interesting design concepts being developed for the competition,” says Kaye Thomson, Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community. “Each one is different and a stand out in their own right. All of them are sympathetic to the surrounding environment of the Victoria Park Lake and will provide a significant entry point to the southern end of the CBD.”

The five selected architectural teams were provided with a more detailed brief and paid an honorarium of $7,000 to develop their concept designs.

Chosen by a seven-member jury, the final design will be announced on 27 April. Members of the community are encouraged to view the exhibition, and comments by visitors will be taken into account by the jury.

The winner will be appointed to develop a detailed design, and will receive a prize of $10,000.

As well as viewing the exhibition, the designs can also be found online here
