The practice has been working overseas and with international clients for the past 15 years, says bureau^proberts creative director Liam Proberts.

According to Proberts, the preference for Australian-based architects and designers in these regions reflects the high regard for great design and strong capability featured within Australia’s design industry.

“We’ve always found that our Australian design work was of interest to overseas clients, which has reinforced our practice’s approach,” Proberts says. “We fold our international learnings in to benefit our local projects and vice versa.”

Now in their 33rd year, the Export Awards recognise Queensland businesses for their innovation, resilience, and determination. Queensland’s export industry was estimated in 2022-23 to be valued at $140 billion and supports one in five jobs in the state.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says these annual awards recognise and celebrate Queensland’s exporters expanding and innovating internationally.

“Queensland exports high-quality products and services to every corner of the globe, known for their ingenuity, creativity and passion.”

bureau^proberts’ notable international projects include the Australian Pavilion, designed for Expo 2020 in Dubai, and Wahat al Karama – an art installation in Abu Dhabi – with Urban Art Projects. The Australian Pavilion, commissioned by the Australian Government, was among the most popular and engaging pavilions at the Expo, drawing 1.6 million in-person visitors and 30 million virtual visitors during its tenure from October 2021 to March 2022.

The award-winners will be announced at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre on 18 October 2023.
