Work has commenced on the Lume Precinct in Carlton, which combines the work of several prominent Melbourne architecture firms.

The residential development was launched in November, 2010.

Architect, Daryl Jackson has overseen the masterplan for the precinct, with each of the three apartment buildings designed by Melbourne architects: Fender Katsalidis (Aura), Ashton Raggatt McDougall (Ambient), and Jackson Clements Burrows (Allure - artist's impressions pictured below, including exterior and interior).

Lovell Chen has also provided conservation advice to maintain the authentic quality of the 1860’s-1920 former Queen Elizabeth Centre buildings, which are to be retained and refurbished at the site.

The project has recorded excellent sales so far, according Australand and St Hilliers and Citta Property Group, who say they are attracting inner city buyers looking for architect-designed low-rise boutique apartments in close proximity to the CBD.

The developers say Lume represents an eclectic mix of the best of Melbourne architecture in keeping with the fabric of the existing Carlton streetscape, together with leafy courtyard living spaces, a pedestrian vista, and a historic context that remains conducive to the site.

The apartments incorporate sustainable design (ESD) features, including a minimum 5 Star energy efficiency rating for each apartment. ESD initiatives include orientation and energy efficiency, solar gas-boosted hot water, materials selection, rainwater harvesting for landscape reuse, future-proofing for grey water supply, and a drought tolerant landscape design.
