Victoria’s building industry continues to be an attractive place to work, building practitioners expressed in the latest pulse practitioner and consumer survey.

According to recent survey data, 87 per cent of Registered Building Practitioners (RBPs) rated their job satisfaction as high, demonstrating an increase on the previous survey result of 85 per cent.

Practitioners identified the key contributing factors to their job satisfaction as being pride in the built product, teamwork aspects, work environment and the variety of work.

Building Commissioner Tony Arnel comments that the increase in practitioner job satisfaction levels has positive implications in the context of a growing industry and meeting consumer expectations.

“With 24,000 Registered Building Practitioners involved in the State’s 24 billion dollar building industry it is pleasing to see high satisfaction levels from both building practitioners and consumers,” he says.

In 2009-10, domestic builders and commercial builders recorded a higher level of job satisfaction than their building surveyor colleagues.

The pulse survey shows 84 per cent of building consumers reporting high satisfaction with their overall building experience — 93 per cent were highly satisfied with the quality of the building product and 85 per cent were highly satisfied with their builder’s management of the project. These levels show an increase from the previous survey which recorded 89 and 80 per cent respectively.
