The Sydney Jewish Museum's new exhibition, Culture and Continuity - Journey through Judaism, delivered by GroupGSA architects, was officially opened on June 14.

The museum is the largest of two Jewish museums in Australia, and serves as a centre for education in the Holocaust and Australian Jewish history.

The ground floor display occupies an area of 350 sqm which houses the permanent exhibition for Australian Jewish History. The project involved the refurbishment of the ground floor: new exhibition walls and showcases, a new shop and floor finishes, new openings into the adjacent Benefactor's Hall, graphics and exhibition signage.

The ground floor space is anchored by a Star of David patterned floor and a fractured void above. A series of strong new exhibition walls has created a circle embracing the central area displaying a timeline of Jewish history.

The existing Star of David flooring in the centre of the space has been replaced with new limestone sourced from Israel.
