All Pumps Sales and Service has designed and supplied the pump configuration which plays a major part of the watering system upgrade at a top Sydney nursery.

With an emerging shift towards more responsible water usage in commercial and business applications, Summerfield’s Nursery in Austral, Sydney, renewed its existing equipment to achieve far more efficient, uninterrupted watering system for its stock.

Key to the installation was a decision by the nursery’s plumbing contractor to factor in dual Lowara vertical multi-stage pumps with a ‘hydro-var’ system.

The ‘hydro-var’ on this dual variable speed configuration provided the key ingredient for better water management, says Ian Hutchinson, the All Pumps technical consultant who evaluated and supplied the solution.

“Summerfield wanted a system it could use to run sprinklers efficiently not just for today but in the future as well,” says Hutchinson. “The company has the option to phase in more sprinklers as time goes on, so that pumps needed to be capable of taking expansion without requiring addition of more pumps.”

Two Lowara units in a dual packaged pressure system have a variable speed system use a pressure sensor to automatically switch water flow from one pump to another.

The overall achievement is an automated alternation between each pump so that wear and tear is not only cut down to the greater extent, it also allows each pump to age in synchronicity.

This system also has a water flow capacity extending well beyond the average needs of the nursery. Each pump in the variable speed set-up can handle up to six litres per second of water flow at a 60m head.

The entire unit is mounted on a common base plate with a 53 litre pressure tank, all interconnecting pipework, inlet and outlet valves and control panel for automatic alternation.

If ever a need arises for relocation to another site or another part of the nursery, the unit is simply disconnected and reconnected.
