Becton Property Groups’ development, One East Melbourne, has been launched.

The 19-storey residential tower comprises 85 apartments and the adjoining six-storey commercial building includes three levels of car parking, three levels of office space and a large water wise rooftop garden.

Becton’s focus on sustainability while developing One East Melbourne resulted in a 6 star energy rating and is on track to achieve a 5 star NABERS rating.

Architects Ashton Raggatt McDougall’s design response was to establish a peerless building. FORMium Landscape Architects also created a rooftop garden on top of the commercial building, which features a striking patterned paving design. The pattern was partly derived from the drainage pattern of the roof, with the stormwater outlets highlighted as nodes.

To minimise water usage, roof rainwater is captured and directed to large basement storage tanks for reuse for garden irrigation. Rainfall sensors located on the roof control the operation of the automatic irrigation in the form of efficient drip line emitters.
