A new $500,000 test facility in Western Australia has been purpose built for design testing, engineering, tooling and marketing company Azuma Design which will enable expanded compliance testing capability.

The new building is a response to the rapid expansion of housing and construction in Australia's west, Azuma has established the new Canning Vale facility to provide a locally-based solution for the compliance testing of building materials.

The new Perth laboratory has already conducted its first official tests, measuring the structural integrity of several security doors, as well as cyclonic debris tests of building materials.

Director of customer care, Perry Long said:

"It was a logical step to expand our business to Western Australia and we see great potential in the market."

"Having a local lab is much easier and more convenient for our customers on the west coast, and we have established the new facility to ensure we can perform any form of mechanical testing as per the required Standards," Long said.

The Perth laboratory features Azuma's latest Debris Impact Cannon (DIC) which allows component testing in "real world" situations, shooting' various ammunition' at high speeds horizontally into walls, windows and doors, and vertically into roofing materials, to measure structural integrity, particularly in cyclonic conditions.

"We have a flexible and creative approach to our work," Long said.

"Azuma can adapt its equipment to any product and any testing Standard our clients require, and if the requirements are so severe that the police have to sanction our testing equipment, then we are happy to liaise with the authorities to ensure the safest and most effective outcome."
