A North Sydney office building will install five vertical wind turbines as part of an upgrade supported by the Green Building Fund that will reduce the building's environmental impact by generating energy in-house.

The owners of the Pacific Highway-Miller Street corner building are among 30 applicants across the country who have been offered a total of $11.6 million from the Green Building Fund's fourth round.

The Green Building Fund is a federal government initiative that reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by supporting building owners to retro-fit commercial office buildings.

"This round will generate $46 million in total investment in improvements like upgraded building management systems, modern heating and air conditioning systems and upgraded lighting," says minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Kim Carr.

It will also result in savings of more than 26,000t of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
