Engineering Services company Meinhardt Australia will be involved with the US$3.6 billion Dubai Pearl development, which has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold pre-certified status.

The Dubai Pearl is a 1.85 million sqm mixed-use development in a premium location adjacent to Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and Jumeriah.

The development is scheduled to be completed in 2013. Meinhardt Australia is responsible for all mechanical electrical, fire, hydraulic and civil engineering consultancy services to the Dubai Pearl project, as well as specialist services such as green building design and fire performance engineering.

Meinhardt is also the appointed specialist building façade consultant.

The internationally recognised LEED green building rating scheme, administered by the US Green Building Council, acknowledges design utilising cutting-edge environmentally sustainable engineering technologies. Its gold level standard is considered by the international building industry an equivalent to Australia’s 5-Star Green Star rating.

Stage one of Dubai Pearl incorporates a five-level car park podium and four high-rise towers with multi-level interconnecting bridges at the top. Later stages include a variety of low/medium rise buildings surrounding the Sky Towers on the podium.

Sustainability features of the Dubai Pearl include:

- large scale solar boosted hot water generation plant

- high efficiency building façade

- optimised ventilation system for one of the largest undercover car parks in the world

- extensive grey water collection and reuse- green roofs

- heat recovery systems
