Leading the way in the area of high performance wall insulation in Australia and New Zealand are the early adopters of Kingspan insulated panels, a Ferrari-like solution to building design. Kingspan insulated panels have been perfected in the European and UK markets over the past 30 years and are now manufactured in Australia, designed for Australian conditions.

A 3-in-1 system, Kingspan Architectural Wall Panels comprise the external facade, bonded to a rigid Firesafe Polysiocyanurate (PIR) insulation core with a pre-finished internal liner. The fully secret fix panel systems are purpose engineered for the building envelope. The joint detail provides absolute weather tightness enhanced by the application of a factory applied weather seal.

The PIR insulation core has double the thermal performance of conventional insulations and the spanning capabilities of the panels can reduce the secondary steel requirement by half.Available in a range of colours and finishes, Kingspan insulated wall panels offer an efficient alternative method to concrete construction lending themselves particularly well to low rise industrial, retail, health, education and commercial structures.

Kingspan panels can be installed up to 50 per cent faster than site assembled, built up alternatives, facilitate lower lifetime costs and can help to reduce your carbon footprint with low global warming potential.

Majura Park Canberra

Award-winning Canberra architectural firm, Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn, selected Kingspan high performance insulated wall panels for the design of the Majura Park office buildings in Canberra. Impressive and high-tech, these three office buildings on Majura Road, have become significant features of the Canberra airport skyline.

Owned by the Capital Airport Group, Majura Park is situated on airport land adjacent to the runways. Together, the buildings provide over 25,000 sqm of new office space on a former rural space. Some 10,000 sqm of Kingspan’s KS 1000 MR Micro-Rib cladding system in Atlantis and Pearl White was used throughout.

Enriching the arrival experience to the National Capital at the airport, the design celebrates a high impact, sleek contemporary minimalism. Their elegant façade design embraces crisp uncluttered blade architecture through the use of a striking combination of Kingspan’s Atlantis Blue and Pearl White metallic insulated panel colours.

Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre

The high humidity and corrosive chlorine environments of indoor swimming pools and aquatic centres have presented major challenges to building owners and designers who want a thermally stable, high performance building with a long life span. Historically steel panels have not been suitable and conventional insulation techniques have proven to be highly unstable given their permeability and inability to resist the high humidity and corrosive impact from chlorine in these environments.

Architect David Hood chose Kingspan KS1000 RW Insulated Trapezoidal Roof panel in Colorbond Woodland Grey complimented by Kingspan Architectural Wall Panels in Micro-Rib profile (KS1000 MR) in Colorbond Citi. Both utilise Kingspan’s new Aquasafe liner— the Aquasafe coating is a specially developed 200 mm plastisol layer which is used on the internal liner. The combination of the non corrosive Aquasafe surface with the closed-cell, rigid PIR insulation core and purpose engineered panel joints, result in an impermeable barrier.

David Hood comments: “Kingspan Insulated Panels are a sound solution for this type of project. They satisfied all our requirements with ease. The insulated panel technology provides a pre-finished product — they are quick to install, have good insulation properties to aid in compliance with building regulations, and with the secret fix installation provide clean lines which add to the overall aesthetic effect. The Aquasafe liner provides a protective internal skin that will resist attack from the internal pool environment, and all this is backed by a 15-year guarantee.”

“The Kingspan panels allowed the structural design of the building to use less supporting steel, leaving the internal environment with clean lines and minimal internal structural steel exposure. The spaning capabilities of the Kingspan panels allowed us to design an efficient structurally sound model, which gave us savings in terms of time and money spent on onsite materials and construction.“

UTS Science and Research Building, Broadway campus, Sydney

Kingspan insulated panels were selected for the exterior cladding of the new $100 million UTS Science and Research Building, Broadway campus, Sydney.

Ghislain Coulon, Project Team Leader for DesignInc: “DesignInc selected Kingspan insulated panels for two main reasons. The first was an aesthetic choice. We wanted to achieve a smart minimalistic and contemporary look for the top of what is termed Building 4 as the building is over looked by the adjoining UTS Tower and the ABC Studios.

“The second was a functional decision that related to the panels providing an energy efficient means to ensure a stable temperature controlled environment. This was essential for the requirements of the functions housed in this enclosure. We found Kingspan Insulated Panels very well designed, easy to use, install & were well supported by the their in-house technical team.”

Mr Coulon: ”The panels would also be suitable for facades or indeed roofs of auditoriums, libraries and halls, places that house large spaces as they have a very wide span and avoid the tin shed effect which is often the outcome when using profiled metal sheets.”
