Concept Design and Construction has been named the 2011 Master Builder of the Year at the Excellence in Housing Awards for it Mt Buller development.

Hedger Constructions were named Regional Master Builder of the Year for a project at Thornton and the inaugural Young Builder of the Year award went to James Kleverlaan from Kleev Homes in Upper Beaconsfield.

Among the other recipients of the Excellence in Housing awards were builders and architects for projects in suburbs and towns including Mornington, Clifton Hill, Yarraville, Point Cook, Mitcham, Cranbourne, Mont Albert, Kew, Torquay, West Albury, Hesket and Corop.

Master Builders executive director Brian Welch said: “The winning Concept Design and Construction project has set new benchmarks for quality, comfort and style on Mt Buller. Consisting of three cutting edge residences, these four and five bedroom homes provide luxury and practical design in a beautiful setting,” Welch said

Praising Hedger Constructions for their award winning home in Thornton, Welch said the project used sustainable and practical design to create a comfortable and efficient space.

“This home features many sustainable features and was designed in a compartmental fashion to allow for clearly designated zones. With excellent thermal qualities through a number of initiatives, this home is both stylish and energy efficient,” he said.

He also praised James Kleverlaan for winning the Young Builder of the Year award. This is the first time this award has been given.

“James was originally a bricklayer until a serious injury. He has overcome many obstacles to be where he is today and has been described as having impeccable attention to detail. He is obviously passionate about his chosen field and is a well deserving winner of our inaugural Young Builder of the Year award.”
