Fifteen architecture projects, including Jean Nouvel and PTW architects’ One Central Park in Sydney, have been shortlisted by the London Design Museum for their coveted 2015 Design of the Year award.

One Central Park is the only Australian project on the 15-strong shortlist in the Architecture category which sees projects from the likes of Frank Gehry, Estudio Barozzi Veiga, Herzog & de Meuron and MVRDV, as well many other renowned architecture practices.

Now in its eighth year, the award endeavours to celebrate design that promotes or delivers change, enables access, extends design practice or captures the spirit of the year.

The Museum has announced 76 nominees over six categories as potential candidates for the Design of the Year award which has only once been won by an architecture project (which one?). The shortlisted projects from the Digital, Fashion, Product, Transport and Graphics categories are equally as strong and all the designers will now wait for the 4 May category prize announcements and 4 June for the overall winner reveal.

This year’s architecture category is dominated by public building and educational architecture projects, however, One Central Park is joined by USA’s Desert Courtyard House by Wendell Burnette Architects and Vietnam’s House for Trees by Vo Trong Nghia Architects in representing residential architecture in the program.
