It’s that time again. The Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) is calling for expressions of interest in joining the jury panels for the 2018 NSW and Newcastle Architecture Awards.

Members of both jury panels are selected annually by the NSW Awards Committee. A panel of at least three jurors presides over each category of the NSW Architecture Awards, while at least one juror will be selected for each category of the Newcastle Architecture Awards. To be considered, applicants should be AIA members, but non-members who are “experts in their field” will also be considered.

“The awards process is a major opportunity for public and peer recognition of architects’ work, and also provides the Institute with a valuable mechanism to promote architects and architecture in the Australian and international community,” says the AIA.

“Appointment as an award juror is an important role. It offers the chance to contribute to your profession, to recognise and award design excellence in the work of your peers, whilst presenting excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.”

Once selected, the successful jurors will be expected to serve a term that runs between approximately March through to April 2018 for the NSW Chapter Awards, and from approximately January through March 2018 for the Newcastle Regional Awards.

Being a juror does not preclude entrance to the awards, but any projects submitted by a juror or their practice must not be within the same category they are judging.

The closing date for 2018 jury applications is Friday 24 November 2017. The relevant NSW committees will then review all applications. More information and applications here.
