Summer at Strelka
Moscow is a city ‘lacking in irony’ according to Nguyen but he says he has warmed to the locals and particularly his fellow classmates though understands the sheltered nature of the school.
“Studying at Strelka, to a large extent, it’s living in a bubble, where you hang out with people from Strelka who are internationally minded; I think that is one of the big drawbacks.”
Nguyen is due to return to Australia in the middle of the year but says he is not looking forward to it and hopes to have an international career in the future.
“The problem with Australian architecture or the architecture industry in general is that there is kind of a myopic view that we design buildings and nothing else; that’s the best thing about Strelk, that it’s not about designing buildings but about architectural and design thinking applied to other issues such as economics and politics”.
