The Djerring Flemington Hub (the Hub) in Debneys Park, Moonee Valley, Victoria has been designed as a new heart of the community providing a space that brings people together from diverse backgrounds. The Hub replaces the original Flemington Community Centre, which had served the community for over 60 years until deterioration required the building to be demolished in 2021.

Designed by Croxon Ramsay, the Hub is a welcoming and flexible community space providing a variety of areas for visitors to utilise, such as activity and program rooms, family facilities, creative spaces, consulting rooms, sports changing rooms and recreational facilities.

To achieve the design solution for the metal ceilings, Croxon Ramsay chose SAS International’s SAS500 system in a combination of curved and straight baffles in a Golden Pearl finish.

The contrasting curves and angles of the SAS500 system add interest and vibrancy to the interior spaces and the choice of the popular Golden Pearl finish provides a nice element of warmth. In total 175m² of the SAS500 system were installed throughout the facility. The design phase of the project required the SAS team to assist with the drawings to achieve the bespoke curves.

The SAS500 system is a popular choice for designers looking for an alternative to a suspended acoustic ceiling system that is also visually engaging. It is an ideal option for exposed soffit areas. SAS500 is a linear baffle system directly suspended from the soffit for exposed applications. Another benefit is that the baffles can be suspended as individual modules or continual, unbroken runs providing increased flexibility.

The project was completed in Q3 2023.
