Moddex supplied modular bikeway and bridge barriers for the Albion Park Rail Bypass project between Sydney and Bomaderry in New South Wales.

The NSW Government engaged Fulton Hogan to undertake major construction work on the 9.8km Albion Park Rail bypass, beginning in January 2019. The $630 million project funded by the NSW Government to complete the ‘missing link’ for a high standard road between Sydney and Bomaderry, features two new interchanges at the Illawarra Highway and Tongarra Road; 13 bridges; and facilities for pedestrians and cyclists among others.

In addition to improving access for motorists during a flood event, the bypass will also enhance connectivity for local residents in Albion Park. Benefits also include up to 30 per cent travel time savings; increased road capacity; improved efficiency in movement of freight; reduced likelihood of accidents; lesser flood impact; and ability to bypass up to 16 intersections.

An important freight, bus and tourist route, the bypass was opened in October 2021, and work was completed early 2022.

The Moddex difference

With a track record of providing safe and effective handrail and balustrade solutions, Moddex was appointed to supply Bikesafe BS10 and BS30 bikeway barriers as well as Bridgerail BR45 bridge barriers to ensure safe access to shared paths, maintenance bridges and pedestrian bridge balustrades.

With Fulton Hogan having worked closely with Moddex across numerous projects, they were confident Moddex could supply the ideal solution to support the completion of the infrastructure. The balustrades had to be aesthetically pleasing while meeting compliance with all Australian Standards. We consulted closely with the client to identify and select a design that met safety and style requirements.
