The new Total Tools warehouse in Wodonga, VIC is one of their largest in the area, stocking their entire product range. The expansive facility holds several roof-mounted systems that require maintenance access.

Challenge

With several HVAC units placed along the length of the roof, it was a challenge for their workers to access them regularly for maintenance. The extensive warehouse roof space required multiple roof access solutions for workers to safely navigate the large area.

Solution

Working in collaboration with the installer, Anchor Safe, the Kattsafe drafting team designed a bespoke roof access and fall protection system. The custom package, designed specifically for Total Tools’ Wodonga site, included a six-metre angled cage rung ladder, long spans of aluminium walkways to access plant equipment, and parapet crossovers to streamline movement across different roof sections.

To safeguard workers operating at the outer edges of the large roof area, top-mount rapid anchors were installed, providing continuous fall arrest protection without hindering mobility.

Thanks to the lightweight, modular design of the systems, all products were delivered flat-packed and assembled directly on-site. This approach reduced transportation costs and minimised labour requirements, leading to an exceptionally fast and efficient installation.

The project was completed ahead of schedule, exceeding the client's expectations and delivering a reliable long-term solution for rooftop maintenance access.
