Reddam House North Shore has opened its doors for its inaugural academic year, welcoming nearly 500 students to a cutting-edge vertical campus housed in the iconic Simsmetal House, designed by modernist architect Harry Seidler.

The launch marks a bold new chapter in Sydney’s urban education landscape, with plans to accommodate up to 1,350 students as demand for premium private education surges in the city’s northern suburbs.

The transformation of Simsmetal House into a state-of-the-art learning environment was led by Australian national contractor Built and AJC Architects. Their work seamlessly integrates modern educational needs with the building’s architectural legacy.

Jono Cottee, Development Director at Built, praised the project’s successful blend of heritage preservation and innovation. “By leveraging our unique capability as both developer and builder, we’re proud to have given new life to this heritage asset, transforming it into an education facility that aligns with Reddam House’s forward-thinking vision,” Cottee says.

The vertical campus offers over 9,000 square metres of learning space, featuring science laboratories, libraries, arts and performance studios, and an auditorium. Outdoor terraces, including a rooftop with panoramic Sydney Harbour views, add to the dynamic environment. A newly uncovered modernist art wall now forms part of a heritage trail, celebrating the site’s architectural significance.

One standout feature is a dedicated virtual reality classroom powered by Inspired Education’s global partnership with Meta. This initiative introduces students to the Inspired Metaverse, offering immersive experiences ranging from exploring the trenches of World War I to walking on the surface of Mars.

With its blend of cutting-edge technology, innovative curriculum, and respect for heritage, Reddam House North Shore redefines urban education, preparing students for the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Leading the way are school principals Dave and Dee Pitcairn, the dynamic duo renowned for their exceptional experience, bringing their passion for innovation and academic excellence to North Shore.
