The Australian Institute of Architects has strengthened its national leadership with key appointments following a National Council resolution. While Ross Donaldson has been named National President Elect, Lisa Moore will continue as National Council Director for another term.

Donaldson will formally take on the role of National President Elect from the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May 2026. At that time, David Wagner will assume the position of National President, with Donaldson set to step into the presidency at the conclusion of the 2027 AGM.

Based in Western Australia, Donaldson brings extensive experience spanning academia and architectural practice, including senior international leadership roles as CEO and Chairman of Woods Bagot in Hong Kong. He has previously contributed to the Institute through various governance and leadership roles at both chapter and national levels, with a particular focus on advancing the decarbonisation of the built environment. In his new role, he will work closely with the National Council, Board and National President to support the Institute’s strategic priorities and advocacy efforts.

“I am honoured to serve as National President Elect and grateful for the confidence placed in me by National Council,” says Donaldson. “The Institute plays a critical role in advocating for our profession and the value of good design, and I look forward to working closely with David, Adam and National Council and the Board to support members and advance architecture’s contribution to the community – nationally, and across every chapter.”

The Institute also confirms the re-election of Lisa Moore as National Council Director for a further three-year term. Moore, who has served as Board Chair for the past two years, was recognised for her ongoing contribution to national governance and commitment to representing members’ interests.

“I am delighted to continue serving on the Board as a National Council Director and I thank National Council and the members for their trust. It has been a privilege to contribute to the Institute’s national governance, and I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively to support strong leadership, informed decision making, and outcomes that reflect the needs of the organisation for the benefit of members across the country,” Moore says.
