Perched majestically on Hamilton Island, Casa Rotunda stands as a testament to architectural grandeur and timeless elegance. Originally designed by Peter Conley & Associates in the late 1980s, this iconic circular residence has recently undergone a remarkable renovation, breathing new life into its historic walls while preserving its unique character and charm.

The vision behind the renovation project was to honour Casa Rotunda's rich heritage while introducing modern amenities and sustainable design elements. Led by Valentine Building Design and Dankav Developments, the restoration process was meticulous, paying homage to the original design while incorporating contemporary touches to enhance livability and comfort.

Central to the renovation was the strategic use of windows and glazing to optimise natural light, ventilation, and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Expansive windows were installed throughout the residence, allowing sunlight to flood the interior spaces and framing breath-taking vistas of the azure waters and lush greenery of the Whitsunday Islands.

Adjustable louvres

Innovatively, the renovation also introduced Safetyline Jalousie louvres for ventilation, a nod to both traditional architectural techniques and modern sustainability principles. While the use of adjustable louvres promotes natural ventilation, they are also equipped with weather seals to provide resistance from wind and water. This feature is particularly crucial for the home’s unique elevated site and its proximity to the coastline, where strong winds and saltwater exposure are prevalent. The weather seals ensure that the interior remains protected from the elements, maintaining a comfortable and secure living environment for residents.

Another notable feature of the renovation is the use of the anodised frame finish for the windows, providing enhanced protection against corrosion in the seaside setting. This specialised finish ensures the longevity and durability of the aluminium frames, safeguarding them against the corrosive effects of saltwater and coastal weather conditions.

The interior design of Casa Rotunda underwent a transformation that seamlessly blends sophistication with relaxation. Luxurious finishes and furnishings were carefully selected to complement the home's architectural integrity, creating an ambiance of understated luxury and refined elegance.

In addition to enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the residence, sustainability was a central focus of the renovation efforts. Energy-efficient fixtures, eco-friendly materials, and innovative design solutions were incorporated to minimise the home's environmental footprint while maximising energy efficiency and comfort for its inhabitants.

As Casa Rotunda emerges from its renovation, it stands as a shining example of architectural excellence and a testament to the enduring allure of Hamilton Island. With its blend of timeless design, modern amenities, and sustainable practices, Casa Rotunda is poised to continue enchanting residents and visitors alike for generations to come.
