The owners of the 8 Berner Street residence in Merewether, NSW sought a home that complemented the beautiful natural environment as well as the neighbourhood consisting of well-established modern beachside houses.

Designed by CKDS Architecture, the home required a materials palette that not only matched the design scheme but also delivered the durability and functionality needed in the harsh coastal location.

CKDS took on the challenge of delivering a design scheme crafted around the owners’ expectations. The coastal environment played an important part in the decision-making process for product and material selection. Materials were required to be robust and durable while also complementing and aligning with the already well established residential strip, beautiful coastal walkways and stunning landscaping.

The brief also included a request for a simple material and colour palette that echoed integrity, honesty and abundance.

CKDS chose Havwoods HW961 Amendo timber from the Venture Plank collection to feature throughout the home. Selected for its strength, warmth and natural colouring, Amendo timber found versatile application in multiple areas, not only as flooring but also over stairs, walls, ceilings and even doors.

The beautiful colouring and natural characteristics of genuine timber complement the design scheme perfectly, reflecting the coastal landscape while providing the all-important durability required for coastal living.
