Case study: 180 George Parramatta: Design flexibility for a landmark building

In Western Sydney, the iconic 180 George development by Meriton features two towering residential buildings, setting a new standard for luxury living in the Parramatta commercial and cultural precinct. This ambitious project integrates 522 apartments with five-star retail and lifestyle amenities, overlooking the CBD and Parramatta River. The challenge for K-MAC Plumbing was to install a drainage system that could meet the demanding discharge requirements of the 123-floor structure while optimising living space.

The solution came in the form of Geberit SuperTube technology, a high-capacity drainage system with advanced components like Sovent, BottomTurn Bend, and BackFlip Bend. These components eliminated the need for a parallel pressure-relief line and allowed for a more compact design with a smaller pipe diameter of 110mm. As a result, only 21 stacks were needed, significantly reducing the duct space and resulting in a 134 sqm gain in apartment floor space.

Additionally, the system's design allowed for loftier ceiling heights and greater design flexibility, benefiting both architects and plumbing teams. The SuperTube system’s efficient installation process, reduced material costs, and sustainable HDPE construction ensured that 180 George would stand the test of time. By streamlining prefabrication and reducing material usage, the collaboration between Geberit, Reece Group, Ilias Design Group, and K-MAC Plumbing delivered a cost-effective, durable, and future-proof drainage solution that contributed to the overall success and luxury of the 180 George development.
