One of Australia's oldest motor racing facilities, Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway (Ladbrokes Park) is located 25km southeast of the city centre and also has a busy horse racing circuit within its boundaries.

The expansive roof of the grandstand and club facility houses a lot of plant equipment, including refrigeration and air conditioning units, and is frequently accessed by maintenance workers as well as film crews when televising events.

To protect the workers as well as the roof surface, the Sandown facility sought a compliant, lightweight and durable access solution that could withstand the test of time and be simple to install and use.

Solution

Kattsafe worked with the installer, Anchor Safe to design a safe access solution, comprising of 280 metres of elevated platform along the entire roof length, 34 step ladders, multiple crossovers, anchors and several roof-mounted aluminium walkways, all providing safe access when maintenance workers are working at height and closer to the roof edge.

Where multiple parapets on the roof once restricted access around the roof space, Kattsafe platforms ensured all access systems were raised above the parapets to create a simple and effective walkway without any obstruction.
